Whether sheâs reaching for the mermaid-blue dye or trying XXL lengths, no one could accuse Helen Mirrenâwho is 78 years oldâof resting on her laurels in the hairstyle department. Instead, the star of The Queen prefers to have fun.
âI donât think there should be any rules, and luckily there are less and less,â she previously told British Vogue of her approach to her image. âI grew up in a world where there were all kinds of rules as far as women were concerned, and then saw people like Madonna come along and break them all.⦠All rules are made to be broken.â
And break the rules she does, time and time again. While celebrating her receipt of the American Cinematheque Award at the 37th American Cinematheque Award ceremony in Beverly Hills on February 15, Mirren unveiled a new, asymmetric haircut.
Not only was the right hand side of her white hair noticeably longer than the left, the front was also longer than the back. In a good example of an in-between hairstyle, the acclaimed actor wore the mid-length cut with a deep side part and flicked ends (on just one side).
Mirren certainly does not subscribe to the old (and silly) idea that women should cut their hair short once they reach a certain age, and she has said as much. What Mirren does, however, is take good care of her hair.
If you have white or gray locks like Mirren, an at-home toning treatment, such as Oribeâs new Bright Blonde Radiance & Repair Treatment or LâOréalâs Colour Protect Anti-Brassiness Purple Shampoo, can help to offset yellow tones. And for bouncy texture, keratin treatments are excellent.
